What is stoneware？

Stoneware is a type of ceramic that is fired at high temperatures (about 1,200℃) to achieve vitrification. This firing process gives stoneware glass-like properties, which is impermeable to liquids, high strengthed and of good thermal stability, as well as being lead-free, non-toxic, and of high quality and environmentally friendly.

What are some common ways to decorate stoneware? Is it safe?

1. Color-glazed

Stoneware mugs are often decorated by applying a color glaze. Color glaze not only provides rich colors for the cups, but also enhances the beauty and durability of the cups.

The key to whether a color-glazed ceramic mug is toxic or not lies in the choice of its glaze and the production process. Some color glazed ceramic cups in the glaze may contain lead, chromium and other heavy metal elements or other toxic chemical pigments. These harmful substances may dissolve at high temperatures, contaminating food and thus endangering human health. However, if the use of lead-free glazes or low lead glazes in line with national standards, then its safety will be greatly improved. Therefore, buyers need to pay attention to check the product labeling and certification, and remain vigilant to avoid purchasing products from unknown sources or of substandard quality.

2. Decal Printing

Decals printing involve transferring a design onto a special decal paper, which is then placed in contact with the mug and permanently incorporated into the ceramic surface through a sintering process. Mug decal products produced by regular manufacturers usually undergo strict quality control and use safe materials and processes that can be used with confidence.
